Where is the Middle East going? An Israeli perspective
4. November 2014
IACM Lecture Series 2014
Prof. Dr. Efraim Inbar ist Direktor des Begin-Sadat (BESA) Center for Strategic Studies der Bar-Ilan University in Ramat Gan, Israel.
The Middle East experiences a colossal failure to modernize; its statist structures are collapsing and radical Islamist groups are flourishing. Turkey is turning away from the the West and Iran is progressing toward a nuclear arsenal. The monarchies seem to do better and align themselves with Israel to face the challenges of the radical anti-Western forces in the region. Unfortunately, the US displays confusion and lack of astute leadership, leaving its allies in a vulnerable position.
While the lecture will address these issues from an Israeli perspective it covers the wider picture of instability and conflict in the Middle East and its consequences for the international system and the conduct of foreign policies.
